Here's all the family "kids" that reside at Lang Sine Farm.

Deter

"Determined King" is a registered quarter horse that I bought in California in 1987. He is half thoroughbred and half quarter horse. His thoroughbred side makes him high strung, tall, and fast while his quarter horse genes make him muscular. He's over 16.2 hands, so when standing next to him, I can't see over his back. Deter is intelligent and inquisitive, which makes him a pain in the butt at times. Nothing is safe within his reach, especially windshield wipers and tractor seats. He'll be 22 years old in April 2005.

Manana

Manana is a registered Paso Fino. I purchased her in July, 1999 as a companion for Deter when his former companion, Candy, passed away at the age of 32. I don't think they like each other very much, so they keep their distance from one another. Manana is well trained and well behaved. Windshield wipers and tractor seats within her reach are safe from destruction. Manana will be 18 years old in April, 2005.

Sheba

Sheba is "The Best Dog in the World". She came to us in 1996 from Pennsylvania. Sheba understands english and is smarter than some people I know. ("Sheba is smarter than your honor student.") She is also very faithful and loving. Her hobby is chasing squirrels. Sheba was 17 years old in February, 2005. Her birthday is celebrated on the date we got her - February 13th.

Daisy

Daisy is "The Cutest Dog in the World." She is a beagle, about 2 years old. She was found hopping along a road in January, 2003 (at about the age of 6 months) with a compound fracture of her right rear leg. The leg had to be amputated. But Daisy can still out run any rabbit in the county.

Spot

Spot is the newest member of the family, arriving in August, 2004 at about 8 weeks of age. Someone brought him to us after finding him wandering along the road in West Virginia in an unpopulated area. He's intelligent and affectionate. He spends his days playing with Daisy, chewing on rawhide chewies, and sleeping. Oh to have a dog's life!

Province

Province, named after Province McCormick, is a Redbone Coonhound. He was adopted from the Clarke County Animal Shelter in March, 2002. He's young, handsome and affectionate. That's all he has going for him. He's also destructive and loves to chew - sofas are his furniture of choice. Province is about 3 1/2 years old and has been able to curb his appetite for furniture over the last few months.

Maza

Maza, named after Maza McCormick, is also a Redbone Coonhound. And she was also adopted from the Clarke County Animal Shelter in March, 2002. Maza was probably a "Puppy Mill" mom and has the nipples to prove it! Province, the Redbone, is probably one of her puppies. She has a sweet disposition and is very affectionate and faithful. She would be the perfect dog is it wasn't for that nasty habit of pooping in inappropiate places! Maza is about 7 -8 years old.

Katie

Kate is a Black and Tan Coonhound, also adopted from the Clarke County Animal Shelter in March, 2002. Katie is a large and powerful dog. She doesn't know her own strength but loves to hug and kiss. She'll knock the wind out of you by trying to be a lap dog. Katie is very vocal and "talks" a lot. Actually, she howls a lot. Kate wants one of those anti-bark collars for Christmas, don't you Katie? Katie is about 4 years old.

Autumn

Autumn is a cat. She was dumped off at the farm in the Spring of 2001, along with her sister, Summer. She is an inside cat during the colder months and an inside/outside cat during the warmer months. She's affectionate and an all around "nice cat" that loves dogs. We watch out for her because she is totally deaf.

Summer

Summer and her sister, Autumn, were dumped off at the farm in the Spring of 2001. Summer never really warmed up to people and always kept her distance. She lived in the barn year round. In July, 2003, she disappeared for 3 1/2 weeks. When she returned, she was badly injured and weighed only 4 lbs. Her right rear leg was mangled and badly infected. It had to be amputated. It was taken off mid-thigh, but the stump continued to be a source of infection. In October, 2003, her amputated leg was "re-amputated" and the bone was removed from the hip socket. Since then, she healed beautifully. She is now a 100% house cat and has learned to love us.

Casanova

Cass is a Paso Fino who has lived at the farm since November, 2002. He's just a downright nice horse and well trained. But, at times, he has an attitude. He's smart - when he sees you with his halter and lead rope, he runs away and is very difficult to catch. Cass is about 21 years old. I usually ride Cass while on trail rides around the farm.

Muchacha

Muchacha is also a Paso Fino. She moved to the farm with Casanova in November, 2002. She's only five years old, but is very "stable", trusting, and intelligent. Someday she'll be a good fence checking horse - a horse to ride around the fence perimeters to check for problems. She started training during the summer of 2004 and is very intelligent and quiet. Unfortunately, she became lame at the end of the summer and has been recovering over the winter. She'll continue her lessons in the late spring of 2005.

Orange

Orange is an intact male feral cat that showed up about 8 months ago. He was not friendly and did his best to hide from everyone. He's a fighter and was constantly swollen and bloody from fighting other cats. I started feeding him in front of the wash house and in the barn about 6 months ago. Eventually, he became brave enough to come to the kitchen door, looking for food.  Now he's friendly and usually spends the night in the kitchen doorway waiting for breakfast. His name is a variation of his description, "The Orange Cat".
